Planetair encourages you to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions . Believe it or not, we would rather see you reducing your emissions than buying our offsets. However, we unfortunately can’t stop emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere altogether, and offsetting is meant to address those remaining emissions. Buying carbon offsets means that you are investing in a project that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by developing new sources of renewable energy or through energy conservation. The emissions that you produce are balanced by the reductions achieved by the offset project, leaving you with zero net emissions. In order to ensure that the reductions really happen, and are triggered by your investment, it’s important to purchase high quality offsets like those registered to the Gold Standard. Also ensure that the offsets you buy are additional. You reduce your carbon footprint, you reduce global warming, and you support renewable energy and efficiency projects. A good deal, isn’t it?
How does it work?
It’s simple, really. Let’s say you take a return flight from Montreal to Calgary that you would like to offset. You simply go to Planetair’s flight calculator , input your departure and destination city, and we calculate your carbon emissions for you. All you then have to do is purchase the equivalent in offsets, which you can do on the same page. We will send you a certificate and invest your money in a renewable energy or energy efficiency project that avoids the emission of greenhouse gases in the equivalent of the emissions your flight caused. Of course you can do the same for your car, your home, or business.
