The Gold Standard Foundation only awards its label after third-party validation and verification of the project. Because of the rising awareness of the need for transparency and rigor in the carbon market, Gold Standard credits are in high demand. They are also very scarce. This, combined with the strict standards that govern verification, auditing and sustainable development aspects, explains their higher price.
Due to the Gold Standard’s stringent criteria, companies feel safe with the label since they know their carbon investment will have value even if the policy environment changes.
The Gold Standard is supported by the WWF International, Greenpeace, the David Suzuki Foundation, the Pembina Institute and 34 other NGOs. For more information, we invite you to visit the Gold Standard website.
