Support and Certification

Planetair certification

Make your commitment known

The carbon certification developed by Planetair attests that all or part of the GHG emissions of a business, event or activity were quantified and offset by Planetair.

The Planetair ecologo communicates your commitment and efforts to fight climate change to internal and external stakeholders and is widely recognized in Québec and Canada.

Planetair also offers various promotional tools and will develop tailored tools in collaboration with clients in order to meet specific communication needs. Planetair may also assist clients in creating content for in-house communication tools (e.g. website, press release, memo, conference program, etc.). Every client has its own objectives and Planetair has therefore made a series of tools available.

The ecologo is meant for businesses and events that offset the climate impact of their scope 1 and 2 emissions, as defined in the GHG Protocol set out by the World Resources Institute et le World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WRI/WBCSD). Scope 3 sources are included on a voluntary basis since they are not required under the protocol. However, because the emissions may constitute a significant portion of the total emissions of an organization and especially of an event, it is recommended that they be considered whenever applicable.

Further to the quantification and purchase of the equivalent amount of carbon credits, Planetair will issue a carbon certificate attesting to the withdrawal of the credits.

Various types of certifications are available:

·         Event

·         Business

Beyond the overall emissions, the partial activities of a business may be certified:

·         Services

·         Products

·         Specific activity sectors (transportation, printing, etc.)

Greenhouse gas management

  • GHG quantification and inventory

Planetair has supported dozens of businesses and event organizers seeking to determine their climate footprint. If you wish to obtain specific figures on your GHG emissions, Planetair will support you in the process and quantify your GHG emissions, in keeping with the ISO 14064 standard.

The protocol is the most recognized and widely used tool to account for GHG emissions in Canada and abroad. Following established standards and protocols helps to ensure the credibility and acknowledgement of a client’s actions and the eventual inventory verification carried out by the third parties.

  • Development of tailored quantification tools

Planetair will develop a tailored, computer-based data collection and quantification tool to help you inventory your GHG emissions on your own.

Planetair has created these types of tools for several businesses and event organizers. Easy to use, the tools are tailored to meet the client’s needs and greatly facilitate GHG emissions quantification by integrating relevant emissions factors.

  • Greenhouse gas assesment

Planetair supports businesses and event organizers in setting our greenhouse gas management plans. The process generally involves the five following steps.

    1. Setting climate change objectives and priorities
    2. Determining the climate footprint in keeping with the ISO 14064 standard
    3. Designing an emissions reduction strategy and assessing the possibility of generating carbon credits
    4. Offsetting the GHG emissions that are non-reducible
    5. Communicating climate change actions

If you represent a business or an organization or if you are planning an event (festival, conference, meeting, etc.), contact us by e-mail or telephone for more information on carbon support.

Communication and awareness building

Planetair has developed an expertise in communicating the climate change commitments of corporations and organizations. Planetair works with businesses, organizations and communication firms to set out strategies to communicate their carbon commitments.

The businesses, organizations and events that offset their GHG emissions through Planetair carbon credits will also benefit from the visibility of the Planetair certification, which may be used in internal and external communications and is recognized in Québec and Canada.

Planetair launched the Roulez mieuxplatform, which aims to foster eco-driving. First deployed for the general public, it has attracted the interest of businesses seeking to develop internal eco-driving awareness campaigns. Planetair will work with you to adapt the platform to your business or organization.

If you represent a business or an organization or if you are planning an event (festival, conference, meeting, etc.), contact us by e-mail or telephone for more information on your carbon support.

Marketing carbon credits

Why take action?
Business case

An increasing number of innovative companies view their carbon footprint as an integral part of their corporate responsibility. But there are several other tangible business reasons for reducing and offsetting GHG emissions:

  • Cost savings: Improved energy practices can result in substantial cost savings, making the company more competitive and stimulating innovation.

  • Competitive edge: Carbon management programs are a way to differentiate products or services in a crowded marketplace and increase market shares (e.g. carbon neutral courier services or businesses with energy efficient head offices). These initiatives can also increase brand loyalty and build goodwill among employees, customers, suppliers, communities and other stakeholders.

  • Fewer liabilities, more assets:With the advent of carbon markets, carbon emissions can be liabilities and reductions can be assets, just like on a balance sheet.

  • Leadership experience: As the world moves ever further along the climate change continuum, legislation on carbon emissions is becoming increasingly likely, and early adapters could benefit from their leadership position. Companies can gain practical experience by measuring, reporting and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and by purchasing offsets. These skills will prove very useful in a carbon-constrained economy.

  • Investor relations: Investors are increasingly screening businesses for their environmental impacts, and indices that take corporate responsibility into account, such as the Dow Jones Sustainability Index or the FTSE4good, are becoming more influential.

  • Risk management: Your business will likely be affected by climate change. Is this a risk you want to contribute to? Staying ahead of government greenhouse gas regulations means less compliance risk and lower costs (since reductions are generally less expensive to implement before regulations come into effect). Taking responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions also means more investor confidence and less market risk (e.g. consumer boycotts).

  • Image and the workplace: The public is becoming increasingly aware of the magnitude and impacts of climate change. As customers, their opinion matters. And as employees, they will be prouder working for an employer that acts against climate change. Employees appreciate working for a company that stands out as a leader and good corporate citizen and working together on an energy use reduction effort can build and strengthen office teamwork. Many energy efficiency programs result in better workplace environments (e.g. daylighting) and increased productivity.

  • Reputation:A credible, properly communicated commitment to reducing your company’s climate footprint will increase your corporate profile.
